My first impression of the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum by Drunk Elephant is that the packaging exudes modern elegance. The sleek, minimalist design features a frosted plastic bottle that feels high-end, smooth, and sturdy in hand. The pump dispenser is particularly impressive, allowing for precise and hygienic application while minimizing exposure to air and contaminants. However, while the overall weight of the bottle conveys quality and makes it feel substantial, this aspect can make it less travel-friendly.

This serum claims to provide a boost of hydration, leaving the skin looking plump and revitalized while helping to reduce dryness and improve texture. Key ingredients include pro-vitamin B5 (panthenol), which hydrates and nourishes the skin; sodium hyaluronate, a powerful humectant that draws moisture into the skin; and vitamin B3 (niacinamide), known for its soothing and brightening properties. One ingredient to be mindful of is coconut alkanes. While they can provide a silky texture and hydration for some, they are not suitable for those with acne-prone skin, as they can clog pores and lead to breakouts due to their derivation from coconut oil. If you have acne-prone skin or are sensitive to comedogenic ingredients, I would recommend avoiding this product.

The serum retails for approximately $49 for 1 oz (30 ml), making it somewhat pricey. Its lightweight, gel-like texture allows for easy application, and it absorbs fairly quickly into the skin without leaving any residue. I appreciate that it is fragrance-free. Upon application, the serum feels cool and hydrating, layering well under other serums, moisturizers, and makeup. However, that’s where my positive feedback ends. I didn’t notice any significant improvements in my skin from this product. While there was a slight increase in hydration, it certainly wasn’t remarkable.

Drunk Elephant is committed to ethical practices and is certified cruelty-free. According to their website, they ensure that none of their products or ingredients are tested on animals and prioritize transparency in their formulations.

In conclusion, this product is just okay. I didn’t see any positive changes in my skin that would make it worth repurchasing. The luxurious packaging and smooth application are definite highlights, but I didn’t experience any improvements in hydration, plumpness, brightness, or texture. There are countless products on the market that perform better at a lower price point. Moreover, my main concern with this product is the presence of coconut alkanes high on the ingredients list, indicating a significant concentration in the formula. This ingredient is likely to cause breakouts for those with acne-prone skin, which is a risk I’m not willing to take. While the brand’s commitment to cruelty-free practices is commendable, I will not be repurchasing this product.
